KEYC: Learning to help parent inside out
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) – Minnesota is giving parents in jail a second chance by expanding its parental incarcerated program. As a five-year-old pilot program funded by both federal and state dollars, the state calls is a success so far. Now this program is coming to corrections facilities here in Nicollet County.
“The goals are to provide the parents with resources and tools to better parent their kids,” Nicollet County Jail nurse for Kate Albrecht said.
The program at Nicollet County, Parenting Inside Out, teaches parents a dozen skills with some lessons being emotional regulation and effective listening.
It’ll reduce recidivism for those individuals and also reduce the likelihood of their kids getting in the criminal justice system,” Albrecht said.
